Training.
The group as a whole commenced training in April 2006, training would take place at the Featherstone Community Centre every Tuesday evening; starting at 7:00pm until about 9:30pm. All of this classroom based training culminated in written examinations which we had to pass in order to continue further with the training, thankfully all who entered the tests passed. Our training finished on November the 18th 2006, when, following our final exercise (click on link in left hand column for more details) we became fully fledged Community First Responders.
Our training also included some weekend classes which were for such subjects as map reading, "Hazchem" training and practical sessions where we would be set certain scenario's to deal with.
We also had to complete 4 full shifts on a fully operational ambulance, on these day's we would accompany and assist a normal ambulance crew (usually a Paramedic and a Technician) going about their normal day's work. This is an invaluable part of the training as all other training, apart from a short driving assessment, is classroom based and the shifts with the crew give a real insight into the types of situations we may be called to.
